The Demonstrations at Fibrefest have been one of the shows most popular attractions over the years. These demonstrations are presented for the most part by the show's vendors and workshop instructors. Visitors to the show get a chance to watch and learn from the experts as they demonstrate a wide variety of different topics. Many of the topics being demo'ed this year are described below. Please check back from time to time as we add to this list.
1. Preparation and Spinning of Suri Alpaca: by Susan Forsyth
Susan Forsyth lives in Mission BC. She is well known in North America for her expertise and knowledge in the field of fibre preparation. Susan will be on hand at Fibrefest for advice and will be giving free mini workshops about the preparation and spinning of Suri Alpaca. The workshops will be going on throughout the festival, look out for the posted times. Sterling Farms Suri Alpacas, Cortes Island Suri Alpacas & Alpaca Farm BC will be providing Suri Alpaca fibre for the demonstrations and you are also invited to bring a sample of your own fibre to see how it can be transformed.
Susan teaches fibre arts in the Pacific North West, her workshop subjects include, spinning, fibre preparation, dyeing and knitting. She has a great interest in the use of antique circular sock knitting machines and has a 5 page article on the subject published in the Fall 2007 issue of "Spin-off" magazine.
